About Sean
Hi! My name is Sean Tan, and I am a International Relations and History student at the London School of Economics. Before that, I was one of 14 King's (academic) Scholars at Eton College, placing first out of more than 600 students in the selection exams. At Eton, I earned four A*s at A-Level, eleven 9 grades at GCSE, and placed first in several sets of school-wide exams in a handful of subjects.
Over the four years I have spent teaching, I have mentored around a dozen students in a host of different subjects, including at the levels for primary school, 11+ selection exams, 13+ scholarship exams to prestigious schools such as Eton and Westminster Colleges, GCSE, A-Level, and university admissions. During that time, I have helped to secure 13+ academic scholarships and 11+ entry to Eton College for several students, receive numerous offers from Russell Group universities, and lift their predicted A-Level grades from As and lower to A*s, among other successes. Specifically for sciences, two of my students also earned As in their Eton and Westminster scholarship exams respectively.
You can find more information about my academic and personal background at (concealed information) Thank you very much for your time!

From Common Entrance to GCSE, science questions consistently boil down to the same few concepts, but manage to trip up students by using different words and numbers from question to question. By helping students fully grasp those concepts by offering advice and practice questions, I hope to allow them to make easy changes to their methods and understanding that will remarkably improve their grades.
Lessons will consist of two parts: going over past papers (which they may have completed before the lesson), and covering any key topics which they might not have grasped beforehand, with homework assigned if it fits within the student's availability.
Qualifications include placing 1st in chemistry and physics in school exams (out of 260) and placing second twice in chemistry, earning a gold medal in the British Biology Challenge, and a silver medal in the British Physics Challenge. I have also obtained A*s in maths and further maths A-Levels, which translates well to the quantitative questions in physics and chemistry papers.

Sean is really knowledgeable and experienced in teaching multiple subjects. He is very patient, and has been instrumental in helping my child secure his dream senior school offer. Highly recommended!
Sean has been my tutor for a few months now and I’ve made great progress in A Level Economics. His lessons are engaging and flexible- we explore recent relevant news topics related to economics- but the main focus is going through past paper questions and essays or on consolidating content for topics that I feel weren’t covered well in school.
Sean provides a wealth of information e.g his substack where he analyses economic events in a clear and accessible way.
He has in addition been hugely helpful in answering any economics related questions I may have as well as giving advice on essay competitions and more general personal statement advice.
Sean is a phenomenal tutor and I highly recommend him.View more recommendations
