About Jilin

Hi, I’m Jilin, a PhD student in Logic at Zhejiang University, where I also completed my bachelor’s degree in Philosophy with a GPA of 3.95/4.00.

I have teaching assistant and private tutoring experience in philosophical logic, mathematical logic and set theory. I particularly enjoy helping students make sense of abstract concepts and understand how a proof develops from its definitions and assumptions.

My research interests include type theory and proof theory. I also have experience using Lean 4 to formalize mathematical proofs, including work on abstract algebra during a formal verification internship. This background informs my approach to teaching: making each step of an argument explicit and helping you understand not just what works, but why it works.

I speak English and Mandarin Chinese. My aim is to create a supportive learning environment where you can ask questions freely, work through difficulties and develop confidence in your own reasoning.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on understanding rather than memorising procedures. We will work from your course materials, current level and learning goals, breaking difficult ideas into manageable steps through clear explanations, concrete examples and guided practice.

In logic and set theory, we can work on understanding definitions, translating arguments into formal notation, recognising valid and invalid reasoning, and constructing proofs. We can also use examples and counterexamples to explore why a statement holds and what changes when its assumptions change.

A typical lesson can begin with a question or problem you find challenging. We will identify where you get stuck, work through the relevant ideas together, and then try a similar problem for you to apply what you have learned. Rather than simply giving you an answer, I aim to help you develop a method you can use independently.

These lessons are particularly suited to university students studying logic or set theory, as well as beginners learning how to read and write mathematical proofs. Sessions can focus on understanding course material, practising problems or preparing for exams.
