About Kirsty
I am a published literary translator with a degree in German and Portuguese. I was also an excellent student at school, doing A Levels in French, German, English Literature and Maths, as well as an A(S) Level in History. I was best in school for both my A Level and GCSE results. I say this not to show off but to demonstrate that I have a breadth of subject knowledge and a love of learning and my tutoring is designed to inspire this love of learning in my students - whether the traditional academic environment of school inspires this in them or not. I also have experience with people with special educational needs, particularly autistic people, as I am a core volunteer at the charity Autism on the Water, which provides sailing and boating opportunities for autistic individuals and their families and carers.

I have been tutoring consistently alongside my translation work for almost a year now but have various examples of teaching and tutoring experience sprinkled thoughout my CV before that too. I typically teach for one hour, and as I offer lessons for all ages and a wide range of subjects, the structure and style of these lessons vary. For language learning, I have a preference for a grammar-led approach as I believe this gives you the best possible foundation for communication. Fundamentally, though, I adapt my teaching to the preferences of the student. Everyone is an individual and so everyone benefits most from lessons tailored to their needs.
