I'm a linguistics major at NYU, hoping to teach anyone from elementary school to high school. From grammar tests to college essays, I can help! I can also teach basic French and basic Spanish.

About Becket
Language is my passion! As a student of linguistics, I have had the opportunity to learn a new language, French, and to learn deeply about our own language. I have studied early childhood language acquisition and bilingualism, giving me the added knowledge of the best strategies for language acquisition, not solely language proficiency. My experience and success with English is why I am here at NYU today. I have proven my strengths as a writer through research papers, short stories, and literary analysis. It is also worth noting, I always got bonus points on my spelling tests as a kid, so I think I know what I'm doing.

Teaching approach to English: With young students focusing on reading and writing, I will bring some of my favorite stories. We can even come up with our own! With teaching reading and writing, I place an emphasis on phonics rather than memorizing sight words and trying to "sound things out." For older students, I can help lay the foundation for a strong future in writing. I can proofread and workshop essays from research projects and college applications, to short stories and poems. AP Literature: I also took AP Lit in high school and would be happy to work on test prep. French: Immersion is the only way to learn a language. We will get to speaking right away. My focus is on building a large vocabulary rather than getting hung up on grammar just yet. There will be little writing, with a large focus on spoken language. With French songs in the background, and shows to watch at home, there are so many wonderful opportunities to soak in the language, and I can help you find them!
