About Gerardo
Hello, my name is Gerardo, but you can call me Jerry.
My focus in instruction is not to tell you what you have to do to have 'perfect' English. But rather to provide you with opportunities to understand how to use English in ways that benefit you. English is not just some rigid one track language, it changes with time, place, and culture.
I understand that ESL and native English learning can be confusing, frustrating, and can at many times feel impossible to remember. I will dedicate our sessions to help you build a better understanding in more bite sized, and personalized ways. Encouraging learning through topics and subjects you choose.
I have learned my teaching methods through my understanding of Linguistics as well as four years teaching English abroad to students ranging from Kindergarten to tenth grade. My goal is to provide a safe, and understanding place for you to hone your skills without the fear of focusing on perfection without judgement. All sessions will focus on how you learn, and focus on subjects and topics that you wish to talk about.

My lessons are designed to focus on encouraging the student to become comfortable with their English skills, while identifying what they struggle with.
These lessons are driven to be active, promoting students to engage with the tutor in order to build confidence, understanding, and building the desire to use English not as a subject, but as a tool to learn more about their themselves and their interests through communication.
A typical lesson includes:
- A five minute warm-up ranging from casual conversation, to structured reading/writing/listening practice.
- A topic of focus for the session based off of the students needs
- Small evaluations to gauge students understanding of said topic
- Practical exercises using what was learned during the session
- Reflection, and casual conversation/question time
I am driven to provide more engaging and real life applications rather than a strict traditional form of sticking to the books. I want students of all ages to see English as an opportunity to learn for their sake in both professional and everyday life.
The target audience for these sessions are K-9 ESL speakers, but can facilitate native speakers of any level.
