About Marcus

I am a mathematics teacher in my 30s with over ten years of experience. I have helped thousands of students succeed in courses like Algebra 1, Trigonometry, AP Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB/BC. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Mathematics. I earned my master's degree in Teaching and Curriculum at Harvard.

High schoolers often find AP Precalculus, for example, to be challenging because it tends to be one of the first places they encounter ideas like limits or sinusoidal curves. My first priority when working with a student is to make sure they understand foundational concepts of Mathematics because these connections to new more complex material come up again and again throughout these courses.

This focus on the essential concepts helps students see the big picture of Mathematics and understand the subject's value. I find Mathematics to be endlessly interesting, and one of my goals is to instill in my students a love of the subject. I provide dynamic visual representations and countless examples of various mathematical concepts, meeting students wherever they are in the process to tailor my instruction to fit their needs. Many of my students have decided to continue studying Mathematics after working with me.

Whether your child is struggling in their Mathematics classes or craves extra practice, I would love to work with you. Whether you would like your child to have one or two review sessions prior to an exam or weekly tutoring sessions to ensure they master the subject, I would be happy to help.

Mathematics is the only subject I tutor. This specialization means I can offer your child practice problems, notes, and insight into the exams that other tutors who work with students on a range of subjects cannot. I hope to work with you.
