About April
I’m a licensed Kansas public teacher. This is my 15th year in education, including 2 years in special education. For the last 4 years, I have taught struggling elementary students to help read. I’m currently working on my Kansas Seal of Literacy. I’m wanting to expand my instruction to online to move from a classroom setting to a more flexible schedule, but still make an impact on young readers.

My instruction focuses on the fundamental principles of the Science of Reading, focusing on sounds, repetition and manipulation of sounds, and fluency. My instruction is explicit scaffolding approach for continuous growth. Using Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, decoding and encoding drills to increase knowledge of letters and sounds and their relationship to words building a successful reader.
