About Sarah
I have been working in education for 7 years, first as a special education paraprofessional (and proclaimed co-teacher), and then as a certified special education teacher, to becoming the LEAD special education teacher within my building for the past two years. I love working with students, and find great joy in helping them overcome difficulties and challenges faced within the classroom. All students are capable of learning, it's our job as educators to unlock the path to get them there!

Utilizing a research-proven curriculum, my classes are for students who greatly struggle to grasp phonetic skills and basic letter sounds in order to read. Each lesson hyper-focuses on 3-4 words, identifying them, spelling them, and using them in phrases and sentences. Images, fonts, and colors are all carefully chosen for diversity and dyslexia purposes. I have taught these lessons for children in grades 1-3 with great success. Students who formerly could not read simple consonant-vowel-consonant words are finally able to read entire stories after a couple of weeks. As the lessons continue and progress, a deeper knowledge of the written word develops and students are eventually able to grasp the idea of sounding out and reading words phonetically.
