About Luca
Hi I'm Luca! I'm a Chemistry undergraduate at the University of Liverpool, and I've been fascinated by science since I was in school myself. What drew me to chemistry was the way it explains things you can actually see — why reactions happen, why materials behave the way they do — and I like being the person who helps that click for someone else.
I know first-hand how quickly a subject can go from confusing to manageable with the right explanation. There were topics I found genuinely difficult at GCSE and A-Level, and the difference always came from someone breaking the idea down properly rather than repeating it louder. That experience shapes how I tutor: I'm patient with questions, I never make anyone feel slow for asking, and I'd rather spend ten minutes on one idea until it's solid than rush through a topic list.
Studying chemistry at degree level means I'm working with this material every day, so I'm confident in the content and comfortable answering the "but why does that happen?" questions that go beyond the specification. I'm also close enough to my own exams to remember exactly how it feels to sit them.
I take tutoring seriously. I turn up on time and prepared, I plan around what each student actually needs rather than working through a generic scheme, and I'm reliable about communication between lessons. I teach GCSE and A-Level Chemistry and Biology, GCSE Geography and GCSE Combined Science, all online. My lessons suit students from Year 10 through to Year 13, including anyone resitting.
My approach starts with the specification. Whichever board you're on — AQA, OCR, Edexcel — I'll work from the actual syllabus and past papers rather than teaching generally around a topic, because marks are awarded for specific things and examiners are predictable once you know what they want. In a typical session I'll ask you to explain a concept back to me before we go near a question, since that quickly exposes whether something is genuinely understood or just memorised. From there we work through exam questions together, and I'll show you how to break down command words, structure longer answers, and pick up the method marks that students routinely drop in calculations.
Lessons usually run for an hour, which I find is long enough to cover a topic properly without losing focus. I'm happy to do 90 minutes in the run-up to exams or for students who want to work through a full paper.
I achieved a grade 9 in GCSE Chemistry and an A* at A-Level, and I'm currently in my undergraduate Chemistry degree at the University of Liverpool. I sat these exams recently enough that the content and the pressure are both still fresh, which I think makes it easier to explain things in a way that actually lands.
