About Ruth

I was a Learning Support Co-ordinator for adult education, with a background in film and television research, and a degree in English from the University of Cambridge. I've been giving private lessons for 10 years, using my subject knowledge and practical expertise to create a tailored experience based on each student's individual needs. I have worked through several prestigious tutoring agencies with high profile clients, including the children of a former President of the United States. Whether I'm pushing a learner to excel in their teaching qualification, or coaching my students to successfully gain places at Oxford and Cambridge, I hope that my results speak for themselves. I enjoy working with people of all backgrounds and abilities, because I believe the craft of writing is a rewarding subject no matter the level. It's all about finding a way in - as a tutor, that's what I aim to provide.

About the lesson

Are you returning to education after a long break? Writing in English as a second language? Or just feeling daunted by a looming dissertation deadline? I specialise in education for adults, who have a hugely diverse range of needs and interests. From structuring PhDs in epidemiology, to teaching economics in the famous Wormwood Scrubs prison, I work with individuals to help them express their ideas in writing. I will not write your essays for you! But I WILL talk through your work, mark your drafts, identify key thoughts to pursue, plan your workload, boost your confidence, keep you on task, push you to develop your own voice, get you excited about your subject again, etc etc etc... And most of all, I will support you to produce a beautifully-crafted piece of writing that will make you genuinely proud.

I've set my rate at £70 per hour because that is what I earn by working through highly selective, London-based tutoring agencies such as JK Educate and Titanium Tutors. I would, however, be happy to negotiate a lower price for financially disadvantaged students.
