About Dylan

Hi, my name is Dylan Pinkerton and I’m the founder of YOU Music Mentorship. For me, mentoring up-and-coming musicians is more than just telling them what to play, it’s about building a persons' confidence and supporting them to explore their own creativity, while providing the foundational skills which will help them achieve their musical goals.

Music is my passion, and over the span of my career I have always enjoyed helping students to find their own passion in music. Whether it be guitar lessons, music production lessons or anything else music related, my teaching style is down to earth, caring, and supportive.

I have over a decade of experience in the music industry as a touring performer, songwriter, sound engineer and music teacher. I completed my degree in contemporary music at Southern Cross University, and also received scholarships to study abroad at Appalachian State University in North Carolina.

I teach both acoustic guitar and electric guitar lessons in styles such as Pop, Folk, Celtic, Rock, Blues, Classical, Jazz, RnB, Country, Finger Style, Travis Picking and many more. I am a multi-instrumentalist, so I also offer guidance on drums, bass, vocals and mandolin. As a dedicated singer/songwriter, I can guide students through the entire process of music creation, from the basics of musical composition to the art of recording and producing songs to release. For students interested in sound engineering, I offer lessons in industry standard programs such as Logic Pro X, Pro Tools, Ableton and Garage Band.

About the lesson

My teaching style is down to earth, individualised and supportive, guiding students through personalised goals and accompanied by supporting materials, diagrams, worksheets and video content. I will teach you the foundational skills needed to write compelling and interesting music that people will want to listen to start to finish.

I have over 10 years experience in the music industry, a bachelor’s degree in contemporary music and a background in songwriting, live performance and sound engineering. This allows me to design lessons that are multifaceted and filled with all the tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way, perfect for any student from complete beginners to those looking to make a career in music.

Lessons are typically 1 hour in length, but can go for up to 3 hours if working on recording your music in our session. Based on your musical preferences we will listen to music in your genre and break down the techniques that make up this style.
