• 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  I’m from Odessa in the south of Ukraine, and this is my native language. I grew up in an international family with Russian and Belarusian roots, so the language has always felt natural and close to me.

• 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  Alexander Pushkin is an emblematic figure of Russian culture because his works shaped its literary foundation. For example, "Eugene Onegin" is still read today and reflects everyday life, emotions, and values in a way people easily recognize. That’s why Pushkin remains an essential part of the culture.

• 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

  I especially like New Year in Russian culture because it’s the most important holiday for us. We always put up a “новогодняя ёлка” (New Year tree) and celebrate with family. I love how it brings warmth and a sense of tradition.

• 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  Speaking Russian matters to me because it connects me with my family and friends, with my culture, and with the books I love. It’s the language that shapes my identity and keeps me close to my roots.

• 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  Russian can be challenging because of its grammar and cases, but it’s very rewarding to learn. What really helps is studying step by step, having guidance, and practicing the language regularly. Consistency and real use make the learning process much easier and enjoyable.

• 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  A student asks: “Why does Russian have so many cases?”
  The teacher replies: “So we always have something to argue about!”

• 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  In school, I had a strong language barrier in English and was afraid to speak if my grammar wasn’t perfect. Traveling later showed me that people just want to understand you, not judge your mistakes. This taught me an important lesson I use in my work: real communication and understanding are more important than perfection, and courage to speak is what truly helps people connect.
