Find out more about Mariam

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I first developed a passion for music when I was around 6 years old. My mom would play old vinyl jazz records on weekends, and I was completely hypnotized by the rhythm and emotion. It was the piano, though, that truly stole my heart.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Absolutely—classical jazz, especially anything by Bill Evans. His music is like a river: flowing, unpredictable, yet calming.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

One of the most riveting courses I offer is a deep dive into improvisation and musical storytelling. It’s not just about scales or theory—it’s about emotional risk-taking, listening deeply, and expressing oneself without words.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

The violin, without question. The precision of pitch (with no frets), the sensitivity of bowing technique, and the emotional nuance required make it incredibly difficult to master.
  • What are your keys to success?

Consistency, curiosity, and connection. I practice regularly, never stop learning, and always strive to understand what each student feels about music. If you teach with heart and stay open to growth, success follows in all the right ways.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Freddie Mercury – for his fearless creativity and showmanship; I’d want to know where he found the courage to push every boundary.

Nina Simone – to hear her speak about music as protest, pain, and power. Just to listen to her speak would be a privilege.

Jacob Collier – because his understanding of harmony is otherworldly, and he seems like the kind of person who’d turn a napkin into a jam session.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Once during a group project at music school, I had to improvise with jazz musicians for the first time. I was nervous—no sheet music, no plan. But as we played, something clicked. I stopped overthinking and just listened. That day taught me that music isn’t just about technique—it’s about trust, expression, and connection.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I tailor every lesson to the individual. I use storytelling, visuals, movement—even humor—to keep students engaged. I celebrate every small win and turn mistakes into stepping stones. I don’t just teach music; I help students fall in love with it. And most importantly, I listen—not just to the music, but to the person behind it
