About Zoë
My mission is to treat each student's education like a young ivy plant and help them find secure stems so roots can grow up strong. I meet students where they are right now, not where grade or language levels say they should be. I work with clients to define where students want to be and encourage them along the way.
Originally from New Mexico, I graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2021 with degrees in math education, reading education, and English as a Second Language, with German and Spanish minors. My student teaching and graduation took place in a Spokane kindergarten classroom during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over the last ten years, I have taught students of all ages and have studied all over the world, including Germany, Mexico, China, and, of course, in my home country of the United States in New Mexico, Arizona, Washington, and Idaho. I worked in my university Department of Mathematics for three years as a Teaching Assistant and as a summer tutor. I studied abroad in Oaxaca, Mexico as a recipient of the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program and in Passau, Germany as a recipient of EWU's Thomas B. Morris Memorial Scholarship.
As a polyglot and travel enthusiast, I speak English, Spanish, and German, can read French, and am learning Ndé Bizaa' (Mescalero Apache), Arabic, Swahili, and American Sign Language. I know how intimidating it can be to ask for help and being okay make mistakes. Studying other languages and cultures has given me a first-hand appreciation for the challenges language learners face.

I collaborate with clients to create a comprehensive tutoring plan with the student's current status in social life, academics, health, and individual diversity in mind. Each lesson may take a different style, depending on where the student needs extra support. Typically, the first two lessons are Get To Know You assessments, while adjusting the plan along the way to suit student needs.
