About Lee
Hi! I'm Chester, a psychology student and competitive chess player rated 1850 on Chess.com, 1980 on Lichess, with an official 1400 FIDE rating and tournament experience.
I genuinely enjoy teaching because I love seeing the moment when a concept finally makes sense. Watching a student go from feeling overwhelmed by the board to confidently finding tactics, making plans, and enjoying the game is incredibly rewarding. Studying psychology has also given me a deeper appreciation for how people learn, so I naturally think about how to explain ideas in ways that suit each individual.
While I'm not a titled player, I believe good beginner coaching is about patience, clear communication, and adapting to the student, not just playing strong chess. My goal is to create a comfortable environment where you can ask as many questions as you like, make mistakes without judgment, and steadily build confidence with every lesson.

Every student learns differently, so my lessons are fully personalized to your learning style, pace, and goals. I focus on building genuine understanding rather than simply telling you what move to play. Lessons are relaxed, interactive, and questions are always encouraged, we'll keep working on a concept until it clicks.
For complete beginners, we'll cover the fundamentals: piece movement, checkmates, basic tactics, opening principles, and how to avoid common mistakes. For improving beginners, we'll work on positional concepts such as piece activity, pawn structure, planning, and identifying weaknesses. We'll also begin building a simple opening repertoire, improve calculation, analyse your own games, and develop the thought process needed to make good decisions consistently. My goal is to help you become an independent player who understands why a move is good, not just what to play.
