About Tahira
Chemistry Tutor — 15+ Years Teaching, PhD Researcher in Computational Chemistry
I've been teaching chemistry for over fifteen years, first as a full-time lecturer, then as a lab demonstrator, and now as a visiting lecturer while I finish a PhD in computational chemistry. In one of my earlier teaching posts, the pass rate in my classes sat above 90% for several years running, and I redesigned lab safety procedures that cut incident rates dramatically — I mention that not to boast, but because it tells you how I work: I don't leave things to chance, and I don't consider a student "taught" until the results show it.
My own research background is in DFT modelling and organometallic chemistry, with a peer-reviewed publication in an international journal. That matters for tutoring in one specific way: when a student asks why an equation works, not just how to apply it, I can actually answer that, all the way down to the electron level if needed. Most tutors stop at "because that's the rule."
I start every new student with a short, no-pressure diagnostic conversation — not a test, just a way for me to see where things are solid and where they've quietly gone wrong, which is usually further back than the student realises. Lessons after that are built around working through problems together, out loud, rather than me talking at a board. For anyone heading toward exams, we work directly from past papers so nothing on results day is unfamiliar. For university and thesis-level students, I bring in real modelling tools so ideas like reaction mechanisms or orbital theory stop being abstract.
Sessions typically run an hour; I offer 90-minute sessions for thesis or lab-report support where more depth is needed in one sitting.
I teach O-Level, A-Level and IB chemistry students, undergraduates working through inorganic, organic or physical chemistry, and postgraduate students who need guidance on computational methods or organometallic synthesis. Whatever the level, my aim is the same: a student who leaves understanding the chemistry, not one who's memorised their way to the next test.

Chemistry Tutor — From Exam Fundamentals to Computational Chemistry (15+ Years Teaching Experience)
I'm Tahira, a chemist with over 15 years in the classroom and lab — currently a Visiting Lecturer while completing a PhD in computational chemistry. My own research spans DFT/TDDFT modelling, organometallic synthesis, and drug delivery systems, including a peer-reviewed publication on nanomaterial sensing. I bring that research-level fluency down to whatever level a student actually needs.
How I teach:
Every new student starts with a short diagnostic — not a lecture — so I know exactly where the gaps are before we touch a syllabus. From there, sessions are built around worked problems rather than passive explanation: I want students doing the reasoning out loud, not watching me do it. For exam-track students, we work backward from past papers and mark schemes. For university-level and thesis students, I bring in real computational demonstrations (Gaussian, molecular modelling) so abstract concepts like orbital theory or reaction mechanisms stop being abstract.
Lesson length:
Standard sessions run 60 minutes; 90-minute sessions are available for lab report support, thesis chapters, or exam-crunch periods where more depth is needed in one sitting.
Who this is for:
Secondary and high school students preparing for O-Level, A-Level, or IB chemistry
Undergraduates struggling with inorganic, organic, or physical chemistry
Postgraduate and thesis students who need help with computational chemistry, DFT methods, or organometallic synthesis
