About Shafei
I'm a passionate teacher with a genuine love for my job - I wouldn't do anything else! I read daily, listen to audiobooks and love movies.
It's important to say that my classes consistently achieve exceptional results. In Media Studies, our results have regularly been in the top 10% nationally and in some years the top 1% in the country. Across all subjects, my groups are often the highest-performing in the school.
Above all, I love helping young people realise their potential - this has been my passion ever since I started helping children to read as a sixth form student 30 years ago!

I’m Mr Ackbarally, and I’m a Head of Department, Lead Practitioner, and Year 8 form tutor with over 20 years of teaching experience. I teach English, Media Studies and Film Studies across KS3, GCSE, A Level, and to adult learners, including those with SEND needs.
I’m calm, patient and genuinely interested in getting to know each student — what they enjoy, what motivates them, and how they learn best. My lessons are low-pressure, friendly and confidence-building, but always focused on helping students achieve their absolute best.

Shafei lifted my daughter’s grade two notches in three months.
We contacted Shafei in February with upcoming English Language A-level exams in May. My daughter was looking for help with a big assignment as well as how to answer exam questions - what exactly to write in order to get top marks.
Shafei is extremely experienced and competent and knows exactly how to engage as well as guide without it feeling like a teaching session. He is very down to earth. I would recommend Shafei without hesitation. My son has been studying with Shafei for nearly five years. We first contacted him when my son was struggling with English and was averaging grades 3–4. As a parent, I was worried that he would not reach his potential.
Shafei was patient, supportive and always believed in him. Over time, my son’s confidence grew, and so did his results. He eventually achieved a Grade 8 in English Literature, something we honestly never imagined when he first started.
For me, the biggest difference was not just the grade itself, but seeing my son become more confident in his own abilities. We are very grateful for all the support Shafei has given over the years and would highly recommend him.I initially met Shafei in Year 9. He helped me bring my grade up at GCSE drastically, both in literature and language. What I appreciate most about Shafei’s teaching style is that he never gave me a reason not to look forward to our weekly sessions, in contrast to some other experiences I’ve had throughout my school career. He is always honest and makes sure you grasp the concept he has taught you.
His knowledge of the GCSE material is very wide, as he is a teacher in my town, yet at a different school. Even though he was teaching his actual students a different part of the brief/specification compared to me, he always seemed confident in his speech and has never made me question his ability to teach.
A shared experience I’ve had with Shafei isn’t just one moment; it’s the past 5 years he has been teaching me. I wouldn’t have any other tutor for this matter. Highly recommend, he still teaches me to this day at A level.
Additionally, just in case people were interested grades-wise, in Year 9/10 I was achieving high 3’s/low 4’s, even so, the end GCSE result was an 8 in Literature and a 6 in Language.I would highly recommend Shafei as a tutor. He did an incredible job guiding my son to much better grades not only in English, but I truly believe the confidence Noah gained in these sessions spread across all subjects. Noah was predicted a 3 if he applied himself, and within a couple of months with Shafei, Noah came away with a 5. Forever grateful for Shafei and his engaging teaching style.
