About Luke

I have recently graduated from the University of Sheffield after studying Law with Spanish Law for 4 years. Since I was a child, I have been a fluent Spanish speaker after being taught by my Spanish mother from a very young age. I have a strong connection with my Spanish family and have had a passion for learning and teaching languages since secondary school. I have had experience organising my own one-to-one private English lessons for Spanish people of all ages whilst living in Spain during the Summer 2015-2017.

I did Spanish at GCSE (A*) and A level (A) and have an official MLTC B2 level in speaking and writing. After studying at A-level, I have first-hand experience of how the subject is taught and what the requirements are for people that want to achieve the top grade.

I also teach English and have been teaching English since I was 16, when I created and organised my own English lessons in Spain. Since then, I have been teaching in a variety of capacities; in classrooms, English academies, private settings and online. Last year, I taught English for the British Council at UNAM, Mexico's top university, teaching college and university students. My main aim then and now, is to inspire students to take a genuine interest in the English language, and use it to connect with others around the world.

I am really passionate about helping people of all ages learn about a new language as it is a special tool in connecting and experiencing people and cultures from different parts of the world. I woud love an opportunity to share my knowledge help you develop your skills as best I can.

About the lesson

I like to make my lessons as interactive, free-flowing and engaging as possible. I focus on the conversational side, aiming to encourage people to improve their speaking skills and be able to maintain a conversation with a native speaker; learning idioms, colloquial language and also how to maintain casual small talk conversations. I also like to integrate theory and advice in other areas such as vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking and writing where it is neccesary.

The ethos that underpins my lessons is to inspire and spark curiosity (around the subjects I teach) within each student I teach. For me that is what teaching and education is all about and if I can hopefully inspire someone to be passionate about a subject, passion creates progress.
