About Tristan

I was born in Toowoomba and attended Toowoomba Grammar School. I loved my time at TGS and in Year 12 was a Head Boy and graduated with an OP 1. After school I attended UQ where I studied a bachelor of Laws/Commerce and was President of St John’s College. Throughout my university studies I worked at Elevate Education, where I travelled Australia delivering study skills workshops to students, teachers and parents. Upon graduation I worked in the private legal sector for two years before transitioning into the technology industry where I worked as a General Manager for two years.

At the beginning of 2022 I decided to take a very belated gap year at the age of 25 and backpacked around Asia and South America. During my travels I decided to pursue a career in teaching. I am now studying a Masters of Teaching (Secondary) at QUT and am working at TSS as a Resident Master and as a Teacher Aide. For fun I enjoy scuba diving, photography, football, hiking and fishing.

About the lesson

My mission is to provide a no-nonsense, supportive environment for students to address weaknesses and develop better study habits. I believe that when a child is struggling to learn, it is my job as a 1-on-1 tutor to understand how they learn and deploy tailor-made lesson plans that suit the student’s individual temperament and learning style.

An additional knowledge area of mine which compliments traditional tutoring is my ability to coach a student through stress-management and exam preparation. I have personal experience with family members and friends who suffered from “burnout” and have developed robust techniques to help them and myself during high-pressure study and work.
