About Marie
I am a board-certified English teacher. I hold the certifications of:
TESOL Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
TESL Teaching English as a Second Language
TEFL Teaching English as a Foreign Language
I have been teaching English to newcomers to Canada for almost 10 years. I enjoy working one on one and in small groups. I am a part-time student of health sciences, but my true passion is teaching. I hope to integrate my love for spreading knowledge with my love for healthy living once I graduate.

I base my lessons on introducing new vocabulary and concepts through interactive games, worksheets and puzzles.
The focus is not only on translating words, but also identifying possible situations where they will have to use these words.
Proficiency will be judged on a student's ability to use new vocabulary correctly in a scenario that mimics a 'real life' event. Testing will be administered both written and orally.
Repetition is important when learning a new language. Every lesson, we will review the information from last class before moving on; every lesson is built upon a sound understanding of the lesson before.
I will always take the time to ensure that every student feels comfortable and is progressing. I will offer additional individual help and modify lesson plans whenever necessary to ensure all of my students' success.
Most of my experience comes from working with young children under the age of 12. However, I have had a lot of fun and success with people of many different ages and backgrounds.
