About Alvin

My name is Alvin and I have an integrated Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering from one of the top 100 universities in the World, The University of Sheffield, and achieved a 2:1 degree. As it's an interdisciplinary degree, I am familiar with multiple engineering disciplines and can link the relationship between different engineering, mathematics, physics, and how it's used in daily lives making me an enthusiastic tutor with a passion for STEM subjects. For my GCSEs, I have achieved 6 A*'s including Maths, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and double award Engineering.

What sets me apart is I try relate every topic and concepts to real life problems making my lessons exciting. I know how difficult and tedious maths could be at times, but once you know WHY you learn it and HOW it's applied, it can be very interesting, easy and fun to learn.

About the lesson

I have previously tutored high school students for their GCSE maths helping them to achieve their predicted which was very successful as after they got their results back, they thanked me for making the lessons interesting and fun. I've also tutored more complex modules for my junior peers at University for first and second year where I private tutored fluid mechanics and engineering mathematics module. I ensured I had lots of prep time and organised lessons weekly for hourly sessions, sometimes longer depending on the student's needs.

Regardless of the topic, I ensure I study the module/topic in detail and plan what should be covered in the lessons. I create an aim for each lesson and split into mini objectives where I cover the materials to the student and give them sample questions and problems to work on. At the end of lesson, I go over it and ask for the student's understanding of the session covered and how it's applicable in the real world. Next lesson, I would cover briefly what was taught in previous session if there are any questions or covering required. I can also provide some mini quiz and tests in online interactive environments if students are interested.
