About Lucas
My name is Lucas, and I am a 4th-year undergraduate cellist studying in the Columbia-Juilliard Exchange under Professor Darrett Adkins. I have been playing for 15 years, and I am an experienced soloist, teacher, chamber musician, and orchestral musician. I have performed at festivals including (concealed information) the Sarasota Music Festival, the Aspen Music Festival and School, and Orford Musique. I have also performed at renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Levi's Stadium. I have performed chamber music with Benjamin Beilman, Yura Lee, Sharon Isbin, Robert McDuffie, and Matt Haimovitz, and I have also participated in masterclasses with renowned cellists including Frans Helmerson, Hans Jørgen Jensen, Natasha Brofsky, and David Finckel. I have 9 years of teaching experience at home in the Bay Area as a private lesson teacher, chamber music coach, and orchestra sectional coach. I am excited and grateful to work with students in New York!

I would like to wholeheartedly recommend Mr. Lucas CHEN, a gifted cellist and student at The Juilliard School.
My 12-year-old son, an advanced young cellist, has benefited enormously from his guidance.
Mr. Chen combines deep musical knowledge with a kind, patient, and encouraging teaching style.
Lessons are always structured, inspiring, and tailored to my son’s individual needs.
He has a remarkable ability to explain advanced concepts in a way a young musician understands.
His enthusiasm for music is contagious and keeps my son motivated and excited to practice.
Technical accuracy and artistry are always balanced in his teaching approach.
He pays very very close attention to detail while fostering musical expression and creativity.
My son’s progress in tone, technique, and confidence has been remarkable since working with him.
He is professional, punctual, and fully committed to his students’ growth.
I feel fortunate to have found such a dedicated and talented mentor.
I recommend him without reservation to any young student/musician seeking excellent instruction.
I’m delighted to recommend Lucas as a cello teacher. He has been teaching my son for over two years, guiding him from the early stages—starting with Suzuki books—all the way to advanced repertoire such as Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C Major.
Lucas is a patient and engaging teacher who has a remarkable ability to explain concepts clearly and in a way that resonates, especially with younger students. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from his training under esteemed professors and mentors at The Juilliard School and UC Berkeley, and generously passes that on to his students.
His passion for teaching is evident in every lesson, whether in person or online. He is always flexible and accommodating with scheduling, which has been a huge help for our family. Each session brings valuable insights, and my son genuinely looks forward to their time together. Under Lucas’s guidance, we’ve seen steady, meaningful progress in both technique and musicality.
We feel very fortunate to have Lucas as part of our son’s musical journey, and his support has been an excellent complement to our regular instruction.
