About Butler
Considering a, wide variety, international, interdisciplinary, teaching background, helping to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people, connecting different schools of thought, fascinating and inspiring, from real world, eye-opening, experiences, I believe, could have a positive impact on emerging, students, who are about to, venture out into the world.
I was born (Denver, Colorado) and raised, in USA, grew up in California (Graduated High School in 1981 at Corona Del Mar high school in Newport Beach California) and Texas, graduated with a BA in Communications, a minor in Drama, from the, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and have 17 years of international, EFL experience, with an Intensive, Oxford, TESOL,TESL,TEFL, teacher certification(trained at University of Dallas).
Before traveling the world, working in countries like;
Indonesia (as an ESL teacher for JIKS, Jakarta, International Korean School, in Jakarta),
Korea (EWHA, American Language School, & Sogang University, Seoul)
China (translating for Dr Xu, a stem cell research scientist in Beijing and Shenzen) and,
Saudi Arabia (Instructor for the, Royal Saudi Naval Forces in Dammam) for a total of 17 years,
In Century City, California, I worked in,
Guest Services (5 years) for the, JW Marriott and Grand Hyatt, 5-star hotels, where I was awarded,
the, "J. Willard Marriott, Award of Excellence", exemplifying Marriott’s core values and legendary spirit.
I also worked as production assistant on a variety of TV and film productions in Hollywood. But one of my most, cherished, milestones, was writing, ‘Jonny Quest’ cartoon stories for the, Hanna-Barbera, cartoon company, in Universal City.
I’ve also enjoyed being a facilitator in Indonesia (see CV) for oil companies such as, Kondor Petroleum, Conoco Phillips, and TNT corporation among others, where I facilitated/conducted, the following, 3 to 4 day, workshops, for employees, supervisors, and engineers;
1. Report Writing; with the objectives to write reports that are, clear in purpose, and audience focused.
2. Presentation Skills, how to design and deliver, effective presentations.
3. General Business writing; how to write, 'CEO style', documents, short, clear and personal.
And as a General Consultant; creative marketing/liaison between major accounts, and international travel.
Fortunately, the extensive, hands-on, overseas teaching experience I’ve gained, has taught me that when considering each course taken in tackling a particular curriculum, no matter what it is, in order for students to eventually acquire new language, the teacher must first learn how to ‘connect and communicate’, effectively, with students and faculty’. And I believe this to be my forte.
I am also a highly compassionate and approachable person, one who really loves to teach, and sincerely cares. I’ve not only learned how to effectively teach English as a foreign language in a myriad of ways with the acquisition of valuable skills, but just as important, realized a genuine fondness and respect for all languages and cultures.
I’ve been helping foreign students with English for 17 years, almost non-stop (including extensive TOEFL prep) and facilitating on-going, US sponsored, “micro-scholarship programs”, offered to underprivileged, high performing, high school students, across Indonesia for about 2 years.
Knowing exactly what your goals and objectives are is also extremely, vital, so that together we can come up with the most efficient, and effective ways of achieving those goals, whatever they may be.
My experience, skills and qualifications, along with what I have already created/accomplished (ie; my website, facewordz.com, soon to be an app), in the past, can be a good indication of what I can do for you.

For each 25 min lesson:
First I'd assess, and learn about the student, what their needs are.
For example, if student needs help to make a presentation of any kind, I will explain that giving a presentation is a "skill" not a talent, and so anyone can learn.
I will go through each step of giving a presentation, from first deciding how to choose a topic based on the students interests and who the intended audience is, explaining the main steps of a presentation, to giving tips on how to deliver an effective power point presentation.
Again, the lessons depend on what the student needs.
