About Jacob
I am a current Professor of Jazz Bass at the University of Indianapolis. I received a Bachelor's of Jazz Studies from Ball State University and a Master's of Jazz Studies from Indiana University. During my time studying and teaching, I have performed extensively in Indianapolis and surrounding areas with many talented musicians of various genres. Some of these artists include jazz saxophonist Rob Dixon, latin-jazz pianist Pavel & Direct Contact, jazz Guitarist Dave Stryker, soul-singer Bashiri Asad, and many more. I have as well performed at a variety of different venues with groups in many different types of configurations.
I currently lead my own group, the 317 Proyecto, a collective of musicians in Indianapolis specializing in Latin-Jazz, Salsa, and Traditional music from The Caribbean. I have studied with many great musicians and individuals involved in the music industry such as composer Brent Wallarab, producer Wayne Wallace, and trumpeter Mark Buselli. Because of this I have a deep understand of what it takes to be a successful bassist in various genres and music scenes and how to apply yourself successfully as a musician.

I carefully tailor each lesson to the needs and interests of each student, regardless of their level of knowledge of expertise. I am able to provide instruction for the following topics pertaining to the Upright and Electric Bass;
-Technique
-Improvisation
-Music Theory
-Music Composition
-Chord-Scale Relationship
-Various styles (Classical, Jazz, Latin, etc)
When working with a student to understand and progress through these concepts, I find that the most successful method is by learning songs that the student is interested in. This way each student will be able to learn and perform music that interests them, while also being able to understand more about music and the Bass.
