About Tomos

In terms of what inspired me to look into tutoring, it essentially has to do with my own school experience. In general, I know that school can be challenging for various reasons. This could be anything because your teachers don't give you the individual attention you need to properly understand the subject leaving you lost. Or, due to a lack of confidence, you struggled to engage with topics in a classroom setting for fear of being perceived as not understanding something that everyone else seems to know with no effort. Maybe the standard of teaching you have received in an essential subject that you care about and are talented in has just been abysmal this year from no fault of your own. I underwent all of these throughout my time at school, and there were points where it completely crushed my confidence in my own ability. However, thanks to the support of my family and some very talented teachers, I left school with confidence and all the skills needed to get me to a very successful university career. The skills got me to that point that I want to pass on. I want to give you the skill set to overcome the challenges of GCSE and A level so that you can move on to whatever comes next in your journey, be that academia or entering the world of work. My methods for doing this value you as an individual and focus on improving what you think needs improvement. All the while giving you all support and advice that you want, no matter what the question is or the task. I feel incredibly passionate about all the subjects that I offer lessons in, and I can't wait to help you realise just how fascinating they can be.

About the lesson

i, my name is Tom, and I offer lessons in politics, international relations, English literature. Religious studies, history, and literary techniques for GCSE, to A level qualification. I also provide undergraduates with academic technique lessons focusing specifically on improving writing style and referencing correctly. I'm a big believer in a student-first mentality in my tutoring style. Fundamentally, each student will know far more about their strengths and weaknesses in any particular subject than I do. Therefore my tutoring style will change to focus on the areas you believe need improvement.Regarding what a typical session will look like, I tend to engage in a one-on-one discussion about a prearranged topic. This can be an area that you have highlighted to me previously that you would like to work on, a new skill that you would like to develop going forward into your work, Or a new topic that you would like to discuss. Once we have engaged in some discussion of ideas and themes with a specific topic, we can then move on to an activity designed to put the skills that we have discussed into practice In a low stake, no-risk environment. It should be noted that much like with everything else, however, this approach can be changed Depending on what you believe to be effective. Alongside this, I also offer services to construct an effective study plan to build good habits going into exam season and a proofreading service to make sure you don't miss out on higher marks due to missed grammar or spelling mistakes.In terms of my own experience, I recently graduated with a merit in my master's from the University of Birmingham, where I studied for four years. I have a strong record of personal academic achievement, and now I would love to pass on what I've learned to others. In terms of tutoring and mentoring, I have been involved in a large variety of volunteer roles that routinely saw me taking on the task of mentoring people through an extensive range of different subject matters, from academic to personal. It is these skills that I would love to use to help in your development going forward.
