About Tamunotonye

Hi! My name is Tamunotonye, and I’ve been tutoring since 2019, starting back in Year 9 while attending one of the top 100 secondary schools in Nigeria. From a young age, I found joy in solving difficult problems and even more in explaining them to others. There's something incredibly rewarding about watching someone's confidence grow when they finally understand a concept. Maths and the sciences (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) were always my strongest subjects, in my IGCSE I got a grade of 4A*s (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology) and 2As (English and Add Maths) and I also was honoured to graduate as the best science student in my secondary school in the year 2022. These subjects helped me develop strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Skills that I now apply in my current field of study: Cybersecurity.

About the lesson

I specialise in tutoring primary school, secondary school and GCSE students, and my approach always begins with understanding each student as an individual, identifying their specific challenges, learning styles, and areas of confusion. I believe that most learning difficulties stem from weak foundations. Over the years, I’ve found that students often struggle with advanced concepts because they never fully grasped the fundamental principles behind them. That’s why I focus first on strengthening the basics. I treat knowledge as procedural: each new concept builds on the previous one, and skipping steps only leads to confusion. Once the foundation is solid, I introduce targeted, timed, and skill-based exercises designed to reinforce understanding and build confidence. I assign manageable tasks that promote critical thinking and problem-solving, without overwhelming the student. Beyond academic success, I strongly believe in incorporating core life skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, resilience, and adaptability into my sessions. These skills are transferable across subjects and invaluable in everyday life. By helping students build these qualities, they become more confident, capable, and independent learners. My goal is to create a supportive, structured, and engaging learning environment where students can thrive both in their studies and beyond.
