About Katherine (known as Kate)

(Please note that I am currently responding to enquiries for clients who wish to start lessons in September and that I will not be able to undertake new lessons until the start of September as I am working on intensive courses over the summer).
I am an enthusiastic and experienced tutor with a strong commitment to helping students to develop their confidence and realize their potential in public examinations.
With a PhD in French, an MA in Comparative Literature and Translation Theory (English; French; Spanish) and a BA (Hons) in Spanish; French, I have many years’ experience in teaching both English and Modern Languages. I have also taught English for Academic Purposes to many international students within the University of London and supervised and assessed numerous Pre-Master’s dissertations. I am therefore not only well-equipped to prepare students for GCSE and A Level but also to support them during degree programmes at British universities.
I am used to helping students to approach aspects of English which they often find challenging, such as Poetry and Media Texts. I am usually able to find ways in which to make these and other aspects of their studies relatable and accessible for the student. By giving a learner practice in interpreting an examination question and helping them to understand what the examiner is looking for, I aim to enable the student to apply their knowledge effectively in examination conditions. I have myself been a French A level Oral Examiner (and conducted a great deal of University level assessment) and am accustomed to helping students to gain vital confidence in their use of both English and Modern Languages. Overall, I regard any student of mine as a VIP and their confidence and success as my overriding priority.

During my PhD studies, I received a Drapers' Company Award at Queen Mary College, University of London. I also won a one-year Rotary International Graduate Scholarship, tenable at the University of Virginia, USA.

Certificate of Education, FE, from University of Roehampton (formerly Garnett College). Please find this certificate uploaded with this application form. Since this certificate is in my previous surname (Ford), I have uploaded my scanned marriage certificate also, which shows that my previous surname was Ford and is now Feinstein. Please note that I hold a current enhanced disclosure DBS certificate and am trained in Safeguarding; Prevent and Promoting Equality and Diversity (the first two by Tower Hamlets, the last-mentioned by both Tower Hamlets and Royal Holloway, University of London).
