About Connor James

I am a qualified primary school teacher with over 10 years of experience teaching and tutoring children across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. I currently work in an independent school, where I teach a broad curriculum and support pupils in achieving high academic standards while developing confidence and independence in their learning.

Alongside my classroom teaching, I have extensive experience as a private tutor, working with a wide range of abilities. I have supported children who need to build core skills and close gaps in learning, as well as those preparing for competitive 10+ and 11+ entrance exams. This has given me a strong understanding of how to adapt my teaching to suit each individual learner.

I am known for being calm, patient, and encouraging, and I work hard to build positive relationships with the children I teach. I believe that confidence is key to success, and I aim to create a supportive environment where pupils feel comfortable to ask questions, take risks, and make progress.

About the lesson

I offer structured, engaging online lessons tailored to each child’s individual needs in Maths, English, or a combination of both. My approach begins with an initial assessment to identify prior knowledge, gaps in understanding, and any misconceptions. This allows me to create a personalised learning plan that targets areas for development while also building confidence.

Each lesson is typically one hour long and follows a clear, consistent structure. We begin with a short starter activity to revisit previous learning and warm up key skills. This is followed by focused teaching input, where I introduce or clarify concepts in a clear and accessible way. Pupils then move on to guided practice and independent application, helping to secure their understanding and apply skills in different contexts.

I place a strong emphasis on building confidence and making learning feel achievable and enjoyable. Lessons are interactive, supportive, and paced to suit the individual learner, ensuring they feel challenged but not overwhelmed.

My lessons are suitable for primary-aged pupils of all abilities, whether they need support to build foundations, close gaps in learning, or stretch themselves further.
