About Manako
Hi! I’m Manako, a BSc Medical Biosciences student at Imperial College London. I moved to the UK in Year 8 and understand how challenging it can be to adapt to the British education system, especially as an English as a second language (ESL) learner. I struggled in Years 8 and 9, but with support, I gained confidence and achieved top grades—10 GCSEs (including 7 grade 9s) and A*AAAA at A-level. Hobbies I enjoy playing clarinet in orchestras and bands. I also play women’s rugby at university!

Teaching Style I would like to help students who need extra support in understanding STEM subjects and help ESLs. In our first session, I’ll ask what you want to improve or struggling on and find what suits you best as we process. My approach to tutoring focuses not just on getting the right answers, but on developing a deeper understanding of the content and learning how to approach problems. I aim to build students' confidence and find their way to study. I will give advice on study techniques that can also be applied across different subjects. Tutoring Experience I have experience tutoring students who struggle with maths and science, offering explanations and resources that suit their learning style. I also provide advice on UCAS applications and STEM-related careers. As a native Japanese speaker who attended Japanese Saturday school from age 12 to 18, I can also support Japanese students learning in English and explain the UK school system.
