About Cheerag

I am a Physics graduate from IIT Roorkee and currently pursuing an MSc in Financial Engineering at the University of Birmingham. I have a strong background in Mathematics, Physics, analytical problem-solving and competitive examinations.
I qualified among the top 6,000 students nationally in the highly competitive IIT-JEE selection process, competing against around one million students. I also ranked 4th in India in the Mimamsa Mains 2022, a national-level science competition.
Beyond academics, I have worked as a Physics Expert with Turing, contributing to the training and evaluation of advanced AI/LLM systems through reinforcement learning with human feedback (RLHF). This experience strengthened my ability to analyse complex problems, explain technical concepts clearly, and identify where reasoning can be improved.
Having personally experienced high-pressure competitive examinations, I understand that strong performance requires more than memorisation. My aim as a tutor is to help students build genuine understanding, confidence and problem-solving ability that they can carry into any subject or field they choose.

About the lesson

My teaching follows a very simple and structured way of learning: understand the concept, identify the underlying logic, practise the right problems, and then learn to solve unfamiliar problems independently.
I believe this method goes beyond Maths and Physics. Once a student learns how to learn in this way, they can apply the same approach to almost any subject or field they choose to pursue.
I have cracked the IIT-JEE, one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations, and experienced first-hand what it takes to perform under intense academic pressure. That experience taught me that success is not about memorising everything or simply doing hundreds of questions. It is about knowing what matters, practising deliberately, and developing the ability to think.
My typical lesson is 60 minutes: approximately 30 minutes focused on the main concept, followed by 30 minutes of supervised problem-solving. I also give targeted homework based on the specific areas where the student needs to improve.
I deliberately train students with carefully selected problems, including some above their usual level. The aim is to develop their thinking so that standard questions become easier and unfamiliar problems become less intimidating.
My goal is to help students become independent thinkers rather than rote memorisers. I want them to leave each lesson not only knowing more, but knowing how to learn, how to think, and how to solve problems.
I am a Physics graduate from IIT Roorkee and currently pursuing an MSc in Financial Engineering at the University of Birmingham. I teach Maths and Physics from GCSE and A Level through to university level, adapting my teaching to each student's current ability and goals.
