About James
I hold a BA (Hons) in History and American Studies from the University of Manchester, with a strong background in humanities subjects including history, politics, and English. My tutoring focuses on helping students understand concepts clearly, think critically, and develop strong essay-writing and analytical skills.
My lessons are structured and tailored to each student’s needs, breaking complex topics into clear, manageable ideas and reinforcing learning through discussion, essay planning, source analysis, and exam preparation.
I particularly enjoy helping students reach those “eureka” moments where a concept finally clicks, building both confidence and a genuine interest in the subject. My lessons are best suited for elementary, middle school, high school students studying humanities or other essay-based subjects.

My tutoring approach focuses on clarity, structure, and helping students truly understand material rather than memorizing it. With a background in History and American Studies, I support students in developing critical thinking, analytical reading, and strong essay-writing skills across humanities subjects such as history, politics, and English.
A typical lesson begins by identifying the student’s current understanding and areas of difficulty. I then break complex topics into clear, manageable concepts and reinforce them through discussion, examples, and practical exercises such as essay planning, source analysis, or exam preparation.
What sets me apart is my experience working with young people in both academic and coaching settings. I spent four summers coaching and mentoring students aged 7–15 at a U.S. summer camp, which strengthened my ability to communicate clearly, adapt to different learning styles, and keep lessons engaging.
My lessons are best suited for elementary, middle school, high school students studying humanities or other essay-based subjects.
