About Cullen

My name is Cullen, and I am a high school student in Washington, D.C. with a strong academic record and a genuine passion for math and working with others. I maintain a 3.97 GPA at one of D.C.'s most competitive academic high schools, am a member of my school's Math Honor Society, and am currently taking advanced math coursework including Honors Algebra 2. I am also dual enrolled at the University of the District of Columbia, where I held a 4.0 GPA. Beyond academics, I have completed over 15 hours of one-on-one peer tutoring at my school and over 90 hours of community service with a D.C.-based youth organization, where I developed and delivered educational workshops for young people. I am patient, reliable, and genuinely invested in the success of every student I work with. My goal is to make math feel approachable and achievable, and to help each student build the confidence they need to succeed in the classroom and beyond.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring focuses on building genuine understanding rather than just memorizing steps. I work one-on-one with each student to identify exactly where they are struggling, then break concepts down in a way that clicks for them personally. A typical session starts by reviewing what the student found difficult, working through problems together step by step, and then having them practice independently to build confidence. I believe in guiding students to find the right answer themselves rather than simply giving it to them — this builds real problem-solving skills that last beyond the classroom. My lessons are best suited for middle school and high school students in Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry. As a high-achieving student currently excelling in advanced math coursework with a 3.97 GPA, I understand the material deeply and remember what it felt like to learn it — which helps me connect with students in a way that makes math less intimidating and more enjoyable.
