About Abigail
The best thing you can get out of a teacher or tutor is to have them deeply care about you, your education, and your success. This, I can promise you, is what I build myself on. There’s nothing more I want than to see comprehension and rightful pride flourish in someone as they learn. Communication is open and encouraged. Never feel shy to debate me on something, and always articulate how I can improve the lessons. One of the best ways to know if you truly grasp a subject, is to converse well on it. I want there to be practiced dialectic, so the skills carry on into day-to-day life.

My lessons are first and foremost focused on YOU and what you want to get out of them. We can discuss the type of material you’re interested in, or seek to understand better, and build a curriculum suited to meet your needs. These lessons will seek to help you develop a deeper understanding, and skills to apply what you learn to other works of writing. When it comes to a piece of literature we will look into broader historical background, understanding when the author was writing, then we will try and understand the author themselves. What values and ideas did the author hold that may have been woven into their work, and how can we use that to better comprehend the work? When looking at the work itself, we will identify narrative beats, character types, and the artistic elements within. If the piece of work is an essay, we will work through it section by section, until we are sure we grasp what the writer wants to imbue to us. To restate, you help be build the lessons so you learn in the areas you want and need to learn in. So, I am more than willing to customize and modify the lessons.
