About Olivia

Hello! My name is Olivia Dunson, and I am thrilled to offer my tutoring services to help students achieve their academic goals. Currently, I am a political communication student with a double minor in graphic design and computer science at Florida Southern College.

Having grown up overseas from the age of six until college, I bring a broad and open-minded perspective to my teaching. I am fluent in French and have experience working with people from diverse cultures, which has enriched my understanding of global dynamics. My internships at the US Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia, have honed my skills in technology, social media marketing, and graphic/web design, all of which I integrate into my tutoring methods.

My Background and Experience:

- Private French Tutor: Since February 2020, I have been providing private French tutoring services to English language students. I have tutored American students attending a French language immersion school, offering services via video chat and in-person. My goal is to help students understand French homework, practice assigned exercises, and improve their translation work.

- Private Computer Science Tutor: As a computer science tutor, I offer personalized tutoring in Python and Java, focusing on logic explanations and 1-on-1 learning. I cater to different learning styles, ensuring each student grasps key concepts. Whether tackling homework or teaching additional skills like debugging and algorithm design, I am committed to enhancing your understanding and performance in computer science.

- Assistant Teacher in HS and MS Courses: With experience assisting teachers in high school and middle school classrooms, I have worked with students aged 10-18. My approach includes accommodating various learning styles, fostering teamwork and leadership, and promoting engagement and collaboration. I also support classroom management and help create an inclusive and dynamic learning environment.

My Teaching Method and Techniques

My teaching method is rooted in understanding each student's unique learning style and adapting my techniques accordingly. I employ a blend of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning strategies to ensure comprehensive understanding. For computer science, I emphasize practical coding exercises in Python and Java, alongside logic explanations to foster problem-solving skills. For French, I integrate conversational practice, grammar drills, and cultural insights to make the language come alive.

I believe in the power of 1-on-1 learning, where I can give personalized attention and tailor my approach to each student's pace and needs. I also focus on building a strong foundation in core concepts before moving on to more complex topics, ensuring a solid grasp of the subject matter. My sessions are interactive and engaging, encouraging students to ask questions and think critically.
