About Debra
I am a US Veteran, having served in the US Navy. I then moved on to homeschool my 4 children and teach at our local co-ops. I am currently an online tutor.
When working with my students I use headphones, and protect their privacy extensively.
My favorite thing from teaching my children and others is the moment the student catches on to something we are learning.

Depending on the subject chosen to work on the students will first take a basic assessment, so I know where we need to start. We will then move on to work to reach the students goals.
For Structured Word Inquiry (used both in reading and spelling) we would study how words are built and work toward understanding what we are reading.
In writing we start with making a basic outline and build on to that depending on the level of writing the student needs.
For literature I would work in the understanding of what we are reading, why the author would have written the way they did.
Most of my tutoring in reading and spelling has been with children who have dyslexia or other learning differences.
For literature I have taught children of all ages for preschool all the way through 12th grade.
