About Emily

Hello! Where to begin?! I'm an adult who is a child at heart. I love to get dirty with art and crafts, I love to run around outside with my friends playing soccer (twice a week), I enjoy cuddling up and reading to my golden retriever, Sonny, and most importantly, I love dinosaurs. I am an elementary educator who has qualifications in Special Education, where I enjoy 1-1 and small group instruction really targeting the needs of those in the group. I educate following my favorite alliteration: I'm FIRM, FAIR AND FUN. What does that mean? - Well, FIRM- I will have expectations of my students because I believe they're capable of more than they think. I will support them, but my high expectations will not falter. - I'm FAIR- if you communicate a need to me or an extension on due dates, I am always reasonable. I will always listen to reason, and judge accordingly if my expectations need to be adjusted, which is the most fair I can be with keeping students accountable! - I'm FUN- well, I hope that speaks for itself. I want to have fun teaching as much as the students do learning, so of course I will try to make the lessons as fun for them as possible! As a side note, I am currently working at Trent University, so I am away from the elementary homeroom for now pursuing a professional development opportunity! Although this opportunity was incredible, I do miss my homeroom class of students and am seeking ways that I can fill that gap. - Lessons include: Minds On to get students mind activated, Instruction/ Knowledge shared with interactive body breaks throughout, Activity to apply knowledge through doing, Reflective wrap up to capture if the lesson resonated or needs to be reviewed again! I always try to focus the activity on content they are interested in when applying the knowledge.
