About Phoebe

I am an educator with more than 5 years of teaching, tutoring, and facilitation experience. Throughout my education career, I have worked with learners from elementary school to adulthood. In addition to formal school settings, I have worked with educational nonprofits domestically and internationally to provide high quality learning opportunities.

I have helped students prepare for:
- AP Exams
- the SAT
- writing college admission essays
- researching and writing term papers
- preparing for midterm and final exams

I graduated cum laude from Williams College, with highest departmental honors for my history thesis. I studied history and Arabic and completed a concentration in global studies. I continue to do regular professional development, completing classes and attending learning opportunities at places like the University of Pennsylvania, Global Education Benchmark Group, and Harvard Graduate School of Education's Professional Education division.

About the lesson

As an educator, I embrace challenge and strive to create a classroom environment where students are given the resources and support they need to expand their thinking. I match rigorous academics with genuine respect for students’ potential to excel in my class and beyond!

I enable my students to confront the same questions as working historians and to use the tools of analysis, evaluation, and synthesis key to the discipline. At the heart of my work as an educator is cultivating historical literacy in my students by pairing depth of content with frequent opportunities to “do history” in interpreting primary sources, often to juxtapose different points of view.

Finally, my work as a classroom teacher is deeply influenced by my experiences as a facilitator. Whether facilitating inclusive workshops on wellness or helping a diverse, international group confront challenging topics such as gender identity and harassment, these experiences taught me the value of creating a participant centered environment where students and attendees feel comfortable enough to share their own thoughts and opinions. My background in workshop facilitation taught me the balance between honoring student autonomy and independence and providing support and guidance--a cornerstone of my teaching environment.
