  • 1) When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

I developed an interest in music and singing at a very young age. I started formal vocal training when I was seven and joined the Hong Kong Children’s Choir, where I had the opportunity to perform internationally and experience the magic of choral singing. Over the years, my passion for music expanded into musical theatre, live performance, and vocal health. After moving to Canada, I continued performing and teaching because I wanted to help others experience the same joy and confidence music gave me. Seeing someone discover their authentic voice is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
  • 2) What makes you passionate about your subject?

The voice is the most personal instrument—it reflects who we are. I’m passionate about voice development because it transforms confidence and self-expression. I love helping students overcome challenges such as tongue tension, limited range, or breath control, and watching their voices open up. For me, it’s not only about building strong technique; it’s about empowering people to express themselves freely, whether through singing, public speaking, or performance.
  • 3) What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

I love guiding students on their vocal journey—helping them unlock their potential and build confidence. Every student is unique, and I enjoy tailoring lessons to their goals, whether it’s for auditions, musical theatre, speaking skills, or simply singing for joy.

What makes me a “Superprof” is my combination of experience and passion:
✔ Over 20 years of teaching experience across all ages and levels
✔ Certified training in vocal pedagogy and vocal health
✔ Active performer and producer, bringing real-world insight to lessons
✔ Multilingual instruction in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin
✔ A supportive, fun learning environment that delivers real results
  • 4) Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

Yes! Lea Salonga has been a huge inspiration to me for her incredible artistry in musical theatre and Broadway. She taught me the importance of storytelling through song—something I always emphasize with my students.

Another key influence is Kerry Obert from Obert Voice Studios. Her research on how tongue position affects vocal freedom inspired me to explore vocal anatomy in depth and incorporate functional voice training into my teaching.

One of my proudest experiences was working as Executive Producer and Vocal Coach for Harmony The Musical in Calgary. I trained the cast in both vocal technique and stage presence. Watching the performers grow into confident storytellers on stage was an unforgettable moment and reinforced why I love this work so much.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

Strong Technical Foundation: Healthy, sustainable technique for long-term vocal freedom.
Personalized Approach: Every voice is unique, so I design lessons for individual goals.
Continuous Learning: I stay updated with the latest research in voice science and performance.
Performance Experience: My background as a performer and producer makes lessons practical and inspiring.
Positive Energy: I create a supportive and fun environment so students feel confident and motivated.
Passion and Dedication: I truly care about each student’s growth and celebrate their achievements.
