About Catriona

I'm a 29 year-old Journalist looking to tutor students in English, literacy, reading, oral/presentation and essay writing - to name just a few of my key areas. I'm extremely patient, particularly given my previous experience working as a childcare educator for over 4 years. I have also worked as a tutor for primary and secondary students in English and Maths at 'Numberworks n Words' tutoring centre back in Sydney. I understand the patience and adaptability required to tutor and love to see students grow and challenge themselves as they learn new skills. My background as an experienced journalist makes me ideally placed to help students improve their communication, writing and presentation skills. I've worked as a Senior Audio Journalist for over 4 years, and have also reported the news for TV and Digital platforms. This experience requires expert communication skills, and an ability to condense complex information in a clear and concise manner. This, alongside my presentation skills, means I can help students with various communication, writing and presentation requirements. I love meeting new people and look forward to helping prospective students improve their communication and writing skills.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching is to first and foremost adapt to the individual students' educational needs. Some students enjoy repetition, while others require more practical or creative approaches and it's important to adapt to the individual learner's needs. Most of my lessons would be around one hour, but this is of course flexible depending on the age and learning needs of the student. I have worked previously as a tutor at a centre in Sydney called 'Numberworks n Words', and also tutored an individual learning English as their second language. I have experience tutoring students across primary and secondary schooling, and therefore open to all ages. Due to my strong communication and language skills as a professional journalist, I would be an ideal tutor in studies relating to English, literacy, history and international relations, and can provide clear and concise methods for improving essay writing skills.
