About Amanda

My name is Amanda and I was a high school teacher for 5 years (2016-2021), during which I taught both math and computer science courses. When my husband was offered a Fellowship in Switzerland, we packed up and moved across the world and I had to stop teaching. Now, I want to use my experience to help students thrive in ways they never thought they could. I love making connections and exploring different teaching styles that will suit you personally, because every student learns differently.
I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, so when I graduated high school I majored in Mathematics with a Teaching Emphasis at Whittier College. During that time, I worked at two tutoring centers in addition to private tutoring for local families. Once I had completed my Bachelor's degree, I pursued a Master's in Education while earning my Single-Subject Teaching credential in Mathematics. During that time, I was a substitute teacher for middle school and high school math and science. All this to prepare me to give you the best experience possible, utilizing all my skills and resources to make sure you can be successful in all your educational endeavors!

About the lesson

I taught high school math through the 2020-2021 school year, so I am familiar with current curriculum, teaching strategies/resources, and understand the struggles that online learning brought as schools had to close due to the pandemic. While teachers, students, and parents had to adjust to a new format of classes, it became more and more difficult to focus on and retain the content itself. As a result, many students are now struggling in math because it is a subject that builds upon itself and requires foundational skills from previous courses in order to succeed. Whether your struggles began with the pandemic or prior, I am here to identify and fill those gaps in knowledge with no judgement, because I know ANYONE can be successful in math. While I have taught middle school and high school mathematics courses, I tutored elementary through college students while majoring in math as an undergraduate student, so I am equipped to help with most courses at all grade levels.
