I have committed to play volleyball in college and pursue a literature degree at Lawrence University while pursuing her passion for storytelling. 1. Warm-Up Activity (10 minutes) – Word Scramble & Sentence Fix Spelling: Display a list of scrambled words related to the day's theme (e.g., adventure, history, science). Grammar: Show a sentence with grammatical errors and have students rewrite it correctly. Example: "their going too the park after school" → "They're going to the park after school." 2. Spelling Focus (15 minutes) – Word Patterns & Challenge Words Introduce a weekly spelling rule (e.g., "i before e except after c"). Provide a list of words that follow this rule. Activity: “Speed Spell” – Students write as many correct words as possible in 1 minute. Challenge: Introduce 2-3 high-level words for bonus points. 3. Grammar Lesson (15 minutes) – Interactive Practice Mini-Lesson: Teach one key grammar concept (e.g., subject-verb agreement, punctuation, homophones). Group Challenge: Have students fix incorrect sentences in teams and explain their corrections. Example: Incorrect: "The dog and the cat is playing outside." Correct: "The dog and the cat are playing outside." 4. Reading & Comprehension (15 minutes) – Engaging Text & Discussion Read a short story, article, or excerpt from a novel. Strategy Focus: Teach students to use context clues, make inferences, or summarize. Activity: Pair students up to ask each other comprehension questions. Example Questions: “What do you think will happen next?” “What is the main theme of the passage?”
