About Deeanna
With 10 years of teaching experience at the middle and high school levels, I have learned a lot about the learning needs of youth. I have taught 6th grade science, 8th grade science, Biology, Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, IPC (Integrated Physics & Chemistry), and now AP Environmental Science. I also help tutor my students in their math classes when they are too shy to ask their math teacher for help. My students often find me warm and inviting, but also admire me for my dry sense of humor and willingness to help them even if it's not a subject that I normally teach.

I like to break down lessons to a level that will be most helpful to the individual that I am teaching. My students often come back to me and say that they appreciate how I take time to make sure that I explain it at their level instead of dry like the textbook. I have worked with a wide variety of students at all levels and backgrounds, including special education, 504, ESL (English as a second language), advanced students, and award-winning Academic Decathlon students. Before diving in, I like to assess what the student's current level is and what their academic goals are to tailor the lesson to them.
I like to use a lot of analogies and real-life examples so that students can take value out of the lesson. I prefer lessons that have meaning instead of just memorization.

Perfect! Highly recommend!!! Best tutor EVER. Deeanna made Chemistry simple and showed my daughter how to understand it “the easy way” so it actually makes sense! She is incredibly organized, a great listener, and always finds a way to help a student understand the concept, no matter how complex. She is amazing. Plus she is an actual classroom teacher and has a great sense of humor!
