High School English Teacher gives private tutoring lessons to high school students

I have worked with Candace for the past three years. Last year, we were co-teachers, so I have a unique perspective into her instructional strengths and strategies. Candace is patient, kind, and engaging. She helps students meet tasks of grade-appropriate rigor by instilling positivity, perseverance and resilience. They leave her classroom feeling successful and prepared for academic challenges in the future. Additionally, her students perform, based on the data, above and beyond their grade-level peers in both reading and writing. I attribute this to many factors, some which I will outline below.

Candace is an expert at modeling and differentiating. She breaks down complex tasks with clear direction, graphic organizers and visuals, and adapts long or difficult assignments into manageable chunks. This allows her students to develop confidence as they take on challenges like projects, researching, or essay writing with frequent checkpoints for teacher feedback and student self-reflection.

I know that Candace has opened her classroom door for optional ELA tutoring for her students for the last three years. Her classroom is often full of students who are there for supplemental instruction, as well as those who just enjoy her company and mentorship. She has the demeanor of a guidance counselor with the bonus of being an pro in her subject matter. This combination makes her an obvious choice for students looking for support and advice - academic and otherwise. Many teachers know the content, but they don’t know kids. Candace excels at developing a rapport and trust that then makes it easy to convey the necessary content.

I would feel confident recommending Candace as a tutor in any situation. She is professional, friendly, intelligent, and an amazing teacher. Any student would be lucky to have her support.
