About Simon
I am a 24-year-old history graduate and postgraduate, with first-class degrees from the Universities of Cambridge and York. I have worked closely with world-leading historians, in world-leading history departments.
As you can imagine, I love history in all its guises. While you're never too old to feel the allure of knights, chariots, scrolls and funny wigs, history is (in my opinion) the most rewarding and widest-ranging subject out there. You have before you the entirety of human civilisation. As history students, you're exploring politics, society, philosophy, economics, literature, and so much more besides.
I look forward to working with you, wherever you might be in your studies.
In my academic career to date, I have specialised in the history of science and philosophy, with a particular interest in seventeenth-century England. Equally, I have also researched topics as broad as the built environment of medieval Italian city states, and the high politics of Soviet Russia.

I provide tuition on:

My approach...
I tailor my lessons according to the needs and priorities of the individual pupil.
Having said that, I typically adopt a student-centred and inquiry-based approach. I believe that most students, no matter what their age, learn best when the tutor acts as a guide to develop the student's intellectual instincts.
On to the practical aspects...
• Having completed GSCE, AS and A-Levels,
undergraduate and postgraduate studies in history, I
provide tuition to students from Year 7 through to
postgraduate level.
• I can travel up to 20km (12 miles) from Halstead in
Essex.
• I provide lessons from 30 minutes to 2 hours+ in length.
