I am a visual and kinesthetic learner so I find that incorporating these methods into teaching is how I best relay information. Much of what I study is conceptual and often includes a broader understanding of complex topics. I feel that also teaching from this prospective leads to a more well-rounded understanding of these topics and even allows individuals to think about the world through multiple different lenses. Learning in this way, I believe, can encourage and inspire meaningful academic behavior inside and outside of the classroom. Starting with lesson plans, I would like to discuss with the student about what they feel their short-term and long-term goals are. Ideally, this conversation can help us set some realistic goals that help the student increase test scores, but also their confidence in the subject area. I also think that approaching topics from a multitude of different angles aids in comprehensive learning, so I will provide students with a variety of assignment types to maximize their understanding. As far as classes go, I have been successful in learning about many biological and anthropological topics like ecology, genetics, archaeology, and cultural anthropology. Given this, am best equipped to tutor entry level high school students in these areas.
