Hello! My name is Kieran, and I am a Key Stage 3 and GCSE tutor here on Tutorhub! I am currently studying Biomedical Sciences at the University of Southampton, with the intention of going on into graduate-entry Medicine.
Whilst I have been taking part in my studies, I have had the opportunity to work in a secondary school as a student teacher with Year 10 and Year 11 students, teaching GCSE-level Spanish in both Higher and Foundation tiers. This experience provoked a desire to do more, and that is why I have become an online tutor. Each individual student will be supported throughout their time with me, whether it be learning a new topic entirely or consolidating knowledge in a particular area. Beyond our lessons, I will work through online resources to ensure that I can offer each student the best service possible, preparing a full and comprehensive lesson in advance so that I can maximise the time with students.
Each student has their optimal learning style, and each tutor has their ideal teaching style. Personally, I will happily talk to students and parents about what they are looking to get out of tutoring in a free session. From this, I will happily advise both student and parent about the next steps going forward. The majority of my sessions will be based on learning and consolidating content. There will be revision of past examination papers, as well as questions set for the student to complete independently. Exam questions are the best way of testing whether information has been fully understood, so I will endeavour to have sets of questions ready to work with the student. Independent work will also consist of worksheets and select questions from past exam papers too. This is important to ensure that the student has a comprehensive knowledge of the skill. Finally, I will take time to go through the questions in detail, highlighting any areas where mistakes may have been made, whilst challenging the student's thinking and encouraging them to find the answer in the question.
I have had the experience of examinations not going the way I wanted them to. When I took my A-Level exams, I missed over a month of Sixth Form due to Glandular Fever. Not only did I miss the contact time at College, the extreme fatigue symptoms heavily compromised my revision time too. During my A-Level exams, I also lost my uncle in what can only be described as a chaotic few weeks for me. I know that not everything is as smooth sailing as one could want, but I will be devoted to ensuring that every student is as prepared as they could be. I will work with students to ensure that they are fully prepared, and to ensure that they are as equipped as they can be to deal with bumps along the road.
