About Jonathan

My undergraduate degree is from Loyola University Chicago in Theatre and Secondary Education. I am endorsed in Language Arts/English and Drama/Theatre. I have worked with students from ages 11-18 and some adults. I hold a TESOL certification from Windsor TEFL, accredited by Trinity. Currently, I am a freelance actor, working on my MFA in Writing.

About the lesson

Greetings,

I hope this message finds you well, today. I am a current English and Theatre Teacher in the Chicagoland area in the United States. I am certified to teach grades 6-12 in the US with my undergraduate degree obtained in 2003 from Loyola University Chicago. Additionally, I obtained my TESOL certification at Windsor TEFL, London, accredited by Trinity College, London and The International Examinations Board in 2004.
I am absolutely passionate about helping people learn to communicate through written and spoken language. Of course, as an actor, I rely on communication to tell stories that people can empathize with and be entertained by. As an English teacher, I am passionate about helping students find their voices so they can go and pursue their chosen field as a profession and explore their other passions in life. Communication is key in this world. I've worked with many non verbal students as an aide in Special Education and it is critical to help people know their thoughts and feelings are valid and important!
Most of all, I am passionate about learning new things and seeing things from a different perspective than my own. I am an online student in a Master's Degree (MFA) program in Writing and it's important for me to understand different cultures and try new things so that the material I create is relevant to a large audience and informative. Teaching begins with listening, and that is where I will begin with you as I prepare lessons.

During this pandemic I am only offering online lessons via Skype, Zoom or Google Meets, but realize many of us are dealing with economic hardship. Contact me if you wish to discuss a price on a sliding scale for either 30, 45, or 60 minutes. No one should be denied language assistance due to economic circumstances.
