About Charles

I have been self-employed since 2007, teaching as both a freelance teacher, and working with Yamaha Canada. My teaching career began in 1980 when I became a summer camp counselor at Camp Chief Hector with the Rocky Mountain YMCA. I have worked in 4 different summer camps: Ojai Valley School Camp in California and Project DARE in Ontario and for the Jr. Forest Warden Camp at Longlake Alberta, and as stated above.

I taught elementary Phys. Ed. at Weathersfield Elementary in Thousand Oaks, California.

I have worked with youth at risk (VisionQuest's WagonTrain), and with autistic people with The Society for the Treatment of Autism and with Delvee Ranch in Claresholm.

I can make anything fun which means that even when a student is full of trepidation, I have maps and a compass with loads of different perspectives, and oodles of activities, so that they can look at their curriculum with fresh eyes and an open mind; all based on personality preferences of my (our) student.

I get results and I grow confidence and independence in students who are then thrilled with and empowered by their results.

About the lesson

Dear Reader,

My fun lessons (camp counselor experience extraordinaire) are for: exams, character development, and for knowledge itself. I teach by realizing that some people respond to best to rote and routine, and some prefer the metaphor and the parable; sensing/intuition respectively. Some people prefer to exercise judgement (that of a mountaineer, or a bus driver) and some prefer to improvise with perception. I invoke the personality preferences and hence learning/teaching styles of: Carl Jung, Myers-Briggs and the Keirsey Institute, to be able to adapt my teaching styles to the learning style of the student. This maximizes my effectiveness/efficiency and their success. This grows confidence and ameliorates problem-solving among my students, such that they learn independence.

Etymologically, historically: "I will learn you something" was the original way to say: " I will teach you something," because, it was recognized, that I need to learn about you and to be able to empathize with you and your learning style, before I can 'get through to you." I get fantastic results because I get through to my students.
