About Jon
Hello!
My name is Jon and I am currently a graduate student at Kansas State University. My love for reading and writing began at an early age as my mother worked as a librarian. I have pursued this passion into my academic and professional life, and have found a similar passion for teaching. I so appreciate what I learn from my students and how they continuously show me what an empowering skill strong writing and reading are and how we are all capable of such mastery. I also understand that English is not everyone's favorite subject, so I make it a priority to tailor my teaching to a wider variety of backgrounds and interests. As a student and a teacher, I am always eager to learn more, and I would love the chance to work with you.

I will begin by assessing where you are at and ensuring I am meeting you and your needs appropriately. I want us to establish and collectively bear in mind the goals we are setting for each session. I may begin my lesson with some brief lecturing or explanation of a topic/idea, but I believe it is also important to engage you, the student, from the outset so that you feel empowered in your grasp of whatever we are covering. I will introduce activities to help illustrate that topic/idea and have you complete them in order to assess your understanding. I like to regularly check in with students to ensure they are following/comfortable with the material/pace so that vital aspects of each lesson are not passed by. I like to close sessions by offering a summary of how we have met the objectives we set down in the beginning and how we will be applying those skills elsewhere.
I currently teach undergraduates, but I am interested in teaching high school students as well. I can handle most topics related to writing, literature, and rhetoric.
