About Oksana
I am experienced in teaching maths and computing science at undergraduate and postgraduate level. I was working in different universities in the UK and abroad. I have a PhD in physics and mathematics, and international research reputation. Some time ago, I moved from academia to high tech industry, but I am missing teaching and that is why I decided to provide private lessons in my free time.

I have a large amount of teaching experience at a variety of courses from calculus to post-graduate level. I enjoy teaching very much and consider teaching to be an important part of my professional career. The essence of my teaching philosophy is the following: teach and show respect to your students, as you would like to be taught and shown respect to. I am trying to objectively evaluate my lessons. Simply, I think of myself as being a student and I critically examine how would I feel, think of, understand and memorise the material presented in the class. I try to introduce every mathematical concept in the most interesting, natural and easiest way I can imagine. Whenever possible, I relate mathematical concepts to “down to Earth” everyday experiences (e.g. derivative of a function - walk up-hill with the purpose of losing weight). The outcome of such an approach is that students get the idea that mathematics is part of our living environment and is not just "numbers''. Too often, students go through mathematics courses applying a set of rules or routines without having any real sense of the mathematical reasoning behind them. They may repeat methods shown in class or they may reproduce examples from the text, appearing to have mastered the material, when, in reality, they lack a true conceptual understanding. The lesson duration is from 60 min. I provide lessons and give homework to complete and go through on the next lesson. My training is highly effective, but requires a student to work hard to achieve high marks.
